RECYCLING BLITZ
Many thanks to students and parents for your support in our first Recycling Blitz this year which was held on November 2. We collected approximately $1000 in recyclables which will be matched by MMSB (Multi-Materials Stewardship Board) for a grand total of around $2000. This will go along with our funds raised this year and last to purchase playground equipment for our new school, Carbonear Academy.
Our second Blitz will be held after Christmas ... start saving now! Anyone wishing to make additional donations to Davis Elementary recycling can do so by dropping off their recyclables at the Green Depot here in Carbonear and ask to have it credited to Davis Elementary’s account.
We have been asked by the Green Depot to pass along the following reminders:
please rinse all containers.
milk containers are not recyclable.
all glass donations MUST BE PLACED IN A BOX.
Thank you to Mrs. Chafe and the Grade 5 Green Team for their ongoing efforts with recycling at our school.
DONATION!
Thank you to LOL Branch 53 in Tilton for their generous donation of $500.00 to our school Breakfast Program. Our Breakfast Program gives many of our students a healthy start to the day. Thanks to all the volunteers and organizations who make this program possible.

CALL FOR SKATES/HELMETS
Davis Elementary is asking for donations of skates/helmets to support its skating program this year. Students will be skating monthly, and to help keep costs down for parents of quickly growing children, Davis is providing free skates/helmets to those in need. If you have any skates/helmets to donate to this worthwhile program - including adult sizes (which may be used by larger children) - please drop them by the school any time during the school day. If you have any questions, please contact the school at 596-5012. THANK YOU for helping our children learn to skate! (Please note: Helmets must be CSA approved hockey helmets.)
ALLERGIES
We have students in our school who have SEVERE allergies to Eggs, Fish, Kiwi and all Nuts . Please do not give your children any of these products to bring to school. Please note: Foods that state ‘may contain traces of nuts’ are acceptable and do not pose a health risk to students with peanut allergies. This has been clearly communicated to all schools in Eastern District policies.
Also, our school is now a SCENT FREE
building. We have students and staff with SEVERE allergies to scents.
PEANUT BUTTER
We have received a number of inquiries from parents re the use of artificial peanut butter products in student lunches. Unfortunately we are not permitted to have such products at our school because they so closely resemble real peanut butter it would pose a health risk to students with life-threatening allergies to nuts. This is in accordance with Eastern School District policy.
OUTDOOR DAYS
Please be sure to dress your child for outdoor play. The weather has turned colder, however we will continue to take them outside for fresh air and
exercise.

CHRISTMAS DINNER
The Christmas season is just around the corner and we are now organizing our many events. We plan to have our annual Christmas Dinner on the last day of school before Christmas break, Friday, December 21. For the past two years we have been fortunate enough to have a corporate sponsor to cover the majority of the costs of this dinner. Last year the Carbonear Lions Club was our sponsor and the year previous the Bank of Montreal supported us. We are now seeking support for Christmas Dinner 2012; interested parties may call 596-5012 for further details.
