The end of another school year is fast approaching. We are now finalizing dates and schedules. The last week of school will go as follows:

Our Kindergarten Graduation will take place on Thursday, June 7th starting at 7:00 p.m.
RECYCLING
T hank you to the Grade 5 students and Mrs. Chafe, our ‘Green Team’, who went above and beyond this year with our Recycling Program. Grade 5 students are enjoying a ‘Free’ field trip to Bell Island as a thank you for all their hard work with recycling.
BREAKFAST PROGRAM
The Breakfast Program will conclude on Friday, June 15th .
At this time we would like to sincerely thank all parents, grandparents, community groups, businesses and friends who have volunteered for the program this year. Special thanks to Mrs. Christine Gillespie for coordinating and organizing a very busy Breakfast Program.
HARBOUR BREEZE CATERING
CAFETERIA AND CANTEEN SERVICES
Harbour Breeze Catering will conclude their service at our school on Friday, June 15, 2012. Students will be required to bring their recess snacks and lunch from home for the last week of school.
LIBRARY BOOKS
Any students with library books belonging to the school are reminded to return them as soon as possible so that all bookkeeping may be clued up.
GRADE 5 YEAR-END SOCIAL
This year’s Grade 5 farewell will take place on Tuesday, June 19th from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m.
STUDENT PLACEMENT FOR 2012 - 2013 SCHOOL YEAR
Placement for next year will be done on the basis of student needs, academic and social factors, as well as class numbers. Please do not make special requests for class placement for your child. It is not fair to show preferential treatment for some students over others. Every consideration will be taken when placing your child to best serve their needs.
SPORTS DAY
Our annual Sports Day will be held this year on Friday, June 15th for all students (Kindergarten to Grade 5). Sports Day will go ahead, rain or shine; if the weather is bad, it will take place inside.
ALL KINDERGARTEN STUDENTS
WILL ATTEND THE MORNING SESSION
AND WILL RETURN HOME AT 11:40 A.M.
SPORTS DAY SCHEDULE
9:30 a.m. - Events Begin
11:00 a.m. - Recess Break
12:30 p.m. - Lunch
Students are to be dressed appropriately for outdoor physical activities. (Wear a hat and be sure to have sunblock on.) Students are required to bring a recess snack and their own drinks for the entire day (no cans of pop). Juice and water are recommended for best hydration during physical activity. Hot dogs (provided by the school) will be barbequed on site for lunch. If your child will not eat hot dogs please ensure he/she brings their own picnic lunch.
BACKPACKS AND WATER BOTTLES SHOULD BE CLEARLY LABELLED
WITH THE STUDENT’S NAME
To make this event possible and run smoothly, we need at least 30 volunteers! If you can volunteer please complete and return the slip your child brings home and return it to your child’s teacher as soon as possible.
FAMILY FUN DAY
Our final Family Fun event of the year, ‘Family Fun Day’, is on Saturday, June 16th from 2:00 to 4:00. Students and their families are invited to come along for an afternoon of fun! The cost is $5.00 per family. There will be a Jumping Castle, Dunk Tank, and many more fun activities! All children must be accompanied by an adult.

GOLF ANYONE?
The Grade 2 - 5 students took part in a ‘Golf in Schools’ program at the end of May. The program is offered by the NL Golf Association and Mr. Jim Stick was the instructor. Students and teachers learned and practiced the chip shot and drive. Using special golf balls and grass for inside, the students had a real taste of the great sport of golf.
CUPIDS MUSEUM - STAMP DESIGN CONTEST
Congratulations to Samantha Mutrey-Swain, 4J who was presented with a medal and prizes on Friday, May 12 for her winning design. Samantha won third place in the Junior Division in this contest. Well done!
SPEAK OFF
All Grade 4 and 5 students took part in a school-level speak off on Friday, May 11. Students worked very hard and were well prepared to present to their classmates and to the Grade Threes.

Congratulations to Isaac Sharpe, KC who has finished first year Squirt in Cee Bees Minor hockey. On April 25, 2012 he received his level 1 swimming badge and is currently in level 2 swimming lessons. Isaac is also taking piano and guitar lessons.
Congratulations to Rachel Snow, 4M who became a member of the Amazinkin Symphonic Storytellers and performed her first acting role as Peg in Peg and the Whale this past winter. She advanced from Brownies to Girl Guides this year and has completed many badges with the guiding program. Rachel is currently working on Level 9 in the Red Cross Swim Kids program. Rachel had a very productive year with her Youth Arts & Craft classes and now she is looking forward to her work being displayed at Michelle’s Fine Art & Studio art show. Rachel successfully completed the Grade One Royal Conservatory exam in piano. She thoroughly enjoyed her extracurricular activities at school this past year ... cross country running, violin and flute lessons and the after school sports program.
